Tolman's appearance in the film The Mindy Project, playing romantic novelist Abby Berman for two episodes, was announced the same. In 2015, her second part was played by Michael Dougherty in the film horror comedy Krampus. Following her breakout role on Fargo, Tolman declined several supporting parts as mothers, wives and best friends, looking for an unusual character.
